Veteran singer, actor Hail Amir dies at 76

 

Abdul Hail Amir was a popular singer in the 1970s and 1980s.

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer and actor Abdul Hail Amir died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at 3.43pm today.

He was 76 years old.

Artistes Association of Malaysia (Seniman) president Rozaidi Abdul Jamil, better known as Zed Zaidi, confirmed the matter.

“We (Seniman) were planning to visit him in HKL, but the hospital called to inform us that he had passed away,” he told Bernama.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to Hail’s family.

“The works of this artiste from Penang will surely be remembered forever,” he said.

Hail was famous for songs such as Seloka Hari Raya, Menunggu Nasi Minyak and Antara Matamu dan Mataku, which he sang as a duet with Uji Rashid.

Hail’s talent in the field of vocal arts was recognised by the renowned music composer Ahmad Nawab, leading to the creation of the popular song Wajah Kesayangan Hamba.

Among Hail’s films were Menanti Hari Esok, Ribut Barat and Anita Dunia Ajaib. - FMT
