Woman escapes injury after tree falls on her car in Kampar

IPOH: A woman escaped unharmed after a tree fell on her car at Jalan Kuala Dipang in Pearl Park, Kampar.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Faiezaruddin Mohd Yusop said the woman, in her 30s, was rescued early Monday (May 13) morning after a distress call came in at 6.55am.

"When we arrived, we found the woman trapped in the car.

"We used a chainsaw to cut away the tree before freeing the woman from the car," he said in a statement.

"The operation ended at 8.25am," he added.

There have been several incidents of falling trees in urban areas in the past week.

On Tuesday (May 7), a large 50-year-old tree fell on Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur after a sudden heavy downpour, resulting in the death of one man and two others being injured.

It also damaged 17 vehicles and disrupted monorail services.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)-appointed certified arborists then identified 28 other trees in the city as high-risk in their latest periodic inspection and these were expected to be felled soon.

Penang also faced occurrences of falling trees injuring people or destroying property recently as extreme hot weather and then heavy rain affected the state.

This included an 80-year-old man being injured after a tree fell on him on Wednesday (May 8) at the Penang Botanic Gardens while another massive tree fell across Jalan Macalister in George Town on Saturday (May 11), badly damaging five cars. - Star
