Zahid denies offering Umno sec-gen’s post to Hamzah in 2018

 

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did not name the person who made the claim but advised him to repent immediately.

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied offering the post of Umno secretary-general to Hamzah Zainudin, now with Bersatu, in exchange for Hamzah’s support at the Umno elections in 2018.

In his denial, Zahid did not name Hamzah. He said such claims by the person, who is currently a leader in the opposition, was untrue, Bernama reported.

“I would advise him to repent immediately,” he was quoted as saying.

Hamzah left Umno in 2018 citing dissatisfaction with Zahid’s leadership. He is now Bersatu secretary-general. His allegation about Zahid’s offer was made at a ceramah last night while campaigning for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Hamzah claimed to have been offered the position if he backed Zahid as Umno president in the 2018 Umno elections, when Zahid was challenged by then Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and party elder Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Meanwhile, Malay Mail Online reported Zahid as labelling Hamzah a “habitual liar”, adding that the latter would spew lies every time there was an election.

“I’ve known him for so long, he is always lying, even now. I hope he does not lie in Parliament,” said Zahid after a government function. - FMT
