Bank employee files report on alleged sexual harassment

KUALA LUMPUR: 

The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) said an employee at a local bank has filed a police report over alleged sexual harassment by her superior.

NUBE secretary-general J Solomon said the employee, who worked as a bank teller, lodged the report last month in Ipoh.

“She told us that the police summoned her this week to record statements from her.

They have subsequently informed her that the investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,

 he told reporters after a picket outside the bank’s headquarters here.

Solomon added the police report was filed after the bank purportedly did not take action against the superior. The sexual harassment allegedly happened in 2021.

The bank (previously) refused to meet us (NUBE) to find a resolution,

 he said.

Earlier today, some 500 of the union’s members picketed outside the bank’s headquarters to protest against the financial institution’s mistreatment of its workers.

Solomon said they will continue picketing next week if the government does not step in.
