Those who are ‘two-faced’ putting unity govt to the test, says PKR Youth chief

PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim has warned that the stability of the unity government is being tested by those he described as “two-faced”.

Without naming anyone, Kamil accused certain quarters of engaging in what he described as “political infidelity”.

“While the leadership is working to rebuild public confidence in our administration, this kind of political infidelity is hampering the reform agenda and efforts to strengthen the government,” he said in his policy speech at the youth wing’s congress tonight.

“The eagerness of certain parties to put their political interests above those of the people and country should not be taken lightly.”

Kamil also praised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for maintaining his composure despite “being stabbed from both front and back”.

“Yet, our prime minister continues to show magnanimity and wear a smile before the people, in the interest of preserving their dignity and the stability of the country,” he said.

Kamil’s remarks come amid growing uncertainty over the future of cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

BN, despite being PH’s federal partner, contested all 56 seats in the Johor state election on its own and won 48, giving it a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.

BN also had an informal electoral pact with the PAS-led Perikatan Nasional in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election. Together, the two coalitions secured 26 seats to form the state government, while PH won 11.

However, ahead of the Melaka election, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said the coalition is open to discussions with any party, despite previously saying that the BN-PN cooperation would continue in the state.

PH Youth has since urged the coalition to review the nature, mechanisms and future of its cooperation with BN.

Kamil’s remarks also come as DAP prepares to decide at its congress on Sunday whether it should remain in the federal government, amid growing frustration within PH over the pace of reforms. - FMT
