Namewee escapes police swoop?

VERY QUICK ACTION BY THE POLICE TO ARREST NAMEWEE BUT THOSE SCHOOL HEADS ARE STILL 'WALKING FREELY', WITH NO WORDS OF ARREST AFTER MAKING RACIST REMARKS.

The police are said to have visited the home of controversial local rapper Wee Meng Chee in Muar, Johor, tonight ostensibly to bring him in for questioning over an allegedly seditious video clip he uploaded onto popular video-sharing site YouTube condemning racism in the country.

When contacted, the rapper's manager Fred Chong confirmed that police had gone to Wee's home close to midnight but Wee, known to his fans as Namewee, was not at home when the three patrol cars arrived.

namewee pc 160310 01“I do not know where he is but he is(probably looking for a lawyer to understand the proper procedure (in handling his situation),” said Chong, when asked on the whereabouts of Wee.

The 27-year-old Wee (left) had his legion of his fans alarmed when his Facebook page carried the message reading: 'Three police cars have finally come to my Muar home to arrest me' just before midnight.'

Within minutes, the message had gathered more than 800 comments and 1,000 'likes' (Facebook lingo for indication of support).

'This happened 15 minutes before our 53rd National Day Celebration', the message continued ending in bold, capital letters with: 'This is not a joke'.

'Yes, I'm still here but for how long more, I don't know ... my beloved Malaysia, where is our justice system?” Wee lamented before the end.

At about 1am, Wee updated his message in Chinese stating: 'The police 15 minutes before the National Day countdown came to arrest me but I was not home, I knew I would be taken away at any time, this may be my last message...I wish you all a Happy National Day'.

DPM: 'Serious action' to be taken

Earlier today, police said that Wee was being investigated forsedition, after uploading his YouTube video which drewallegations he was stirring up ethnic tensions.

Wee, a graduate from Taiwan, made national headlines three years ago over another YouTube clip mocking the national anthem which authorities also said was seditious.

NONEHe apologised for that incident, but is in trouble again for posting his latest three-minute rap titled 'Nah' criticising a headmistress accused recently of making racial slurs against her students.

Federal Criminal Investigation chief Bakri Zinin said Wee was being investigated under the Sedition Act. Wee faces up to three years in prison if he is charged and convicted.

The rapper removed the video from YouTube on Sunday, after criticisms from various parties including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who reportedly urged action against those who try to stoke racial tensions.

Commenting on the matter today, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (above) said that the authorities had been directed to take serious action in such matters

In the video, still available on various websites, Wee peppers his Chinese/English/Malay rap with profanities and rude gestures.

Attempts to obtain confirmation for Johor police tonight on the claimed police 'visit' have not been successful.
