I’ll remain tenang, says BN’s Azahar

The Umno man says he will not retaliate against unrelenting personal attacks by the opposition.

LABIS: Despite unrelenting personal attacks by the opposition, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Tenang state by-election is determined not to response with similar assaults.

Azahar Ibrahim said he would remain “tenang (calm) in Tenang” and stick to the issues, rather than resort to “similar dirty tactics”.

The 38-year-old former assistant district officer said: “we in the BN are gentlemen and have never made personal attacks in our meetings with the people.”

Whatever the opposition did, BN would continue to run a clean campaign, he told reporters here when commenting on allegations that he had been negligent in his duties as a civil servant leading to a piece of land being auctioned.

“(As a civil servant) I followed all the procedures (in the land issue),” Azahar said.

Azahar does not think that the voters believe the allegations made against him.

“In my meetings with the people, they have never asked me (about personal issues raised by the opposition). The voters know that the allegations are all lies,” he said.

Azahar, who faces former teacher Normala Sudirman, the Labis PAS women head who is his age, was asked his plans should he win the Jan 30 by-election which follows the death of BN assemblyman Sulaiman Taha on Dec 17.

He said he would first go back to the people for inputs on matters that they would like their assemblyman to look into.
