Watching porn: MACC should clean up its mess

teoh_beng_hock

your say'That is so disgusting. Someone's life is going to be ruined and the officer seems to think watching XXX is more important.'

RCI: MACC man watched porn after quizzing Teoh

Habib RAK: At the Teoh Beng Hock (TBH) royal commission of inquiry, Federal Court judge James Foong said at 1.20am on July 16, 2009, investigator Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus was looking at porn on his computer in the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) office.

The head of investigation, Hishamuddin Hashim answered, "This is matter of self-discipline and not a question of work. This is a personal matter."

Foong shot back, "An important operation is going on and an officer is viewing porn even though there is a government directive forbidding this."

Now we know why Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein sees it fit not to arrest the Datuk T trio. It's a norm to watch porn among government officers. And both MACC and PDRM comes under Home Ministry.

Cala: The situation in RCI is getting hotter each day. The public have some ideas by now on the operation of Selangor MACC, their working attitude (about 'you wrong and I right' attitude), and a system set loose to harm any suspect at their entire pleasure.

Foong, to be fair to Ashraf, I am not at all surprised that the latter watched porn video in between his work. This act of his only goes to show that he is a rational being, one who is an utility maximizer.

My real concern has to do with the manner these Selangor MACC boys were trained in the context of a regime who has been running the country in the past five decades.

What is Selangor MACC's value system when they see a member of opposition party? Do they treat opposition party members as people who are out to cause troubles as the regime may be replaced? Do they perceive their current interests are at risk?

Hence I suggest a journey into their inner minds to unearth the real motives that caused death to TBH.

WeCANLive: This is a shocking revelation! MACC, a commission with all its objectives, charters and philosophies, has just gone done the drain.

All organisations have policies pertaining to downloading materials, especially from restricted websites. Employees who are caught for downloading such materials will have to face a domestic inquiry.

I sense a conspiracy within a conspiracy, and MACC is not what it seems.
Changeagent: My read into how this RCI will play out - MACC will be found negligent in its care of a witness under custody, but not guilty of homicide due to insufficient evidences. A few MACC officers, including Ashraf, will be sacked for failure to dispense duty of care to the victim. Case will close and justice will still be found wanting.

Lim Chong Leong: Porn, porn and more porn - this is the Umno way of life. Sorry Dr Pornthip (Rajasunand), I was not referring to you and I am sure Umno had something else in mind too.

The worse thing is Hishamuddin does not consider watching porn during office hours as work related ("If he did it in front of me, I will reprimand him.").

Of course, it is work related. This is neglect and dereliction of duty. Try watching porn during office hours if you are in the private sector.

Anonymous222: Poor assistant superintendent Ashraf, life in MACC must be so stressful that he has to watch pornography to relieve tension and satisfy his lust. He is a law enforcer who is breaking the law. MACC should clean up its own mess.

How can the public respect MACC? That really reflect badly on the integrity and efficacy of MACC.

Anonymous_3ef1: That is it. This government has lost its legitimacy to run the country. How are we to explain to our children and grandchildren that we have a dirty, rotten government that only rapists, pedophiles, porn artists, con artists, corrupt liars and murderers are only fit to be in the cabinet and run this country? We are the laughing stock of the entire world.

FellowMalaysian: It is disgusting and deplorable what these MACC nitwits would do in abusing their power to the extent of neglecting their duties. As a consequence, a precious life is lost.

They most likely have physically hurt TBH based on the remarks by the coroners. It would be interesting to see video recordings of TBH's interrogation. Unless, of course, the footage have been conveniently discarded by the cohorts.

Ghkok: At the end of the day, the commission must trace the chain of command, and trace it up all the way to the top person - the person who gave the instruction to MACC to launch an onslaught on the Selangor Pakatan government, to find crimes committed even if there's nothing to be found, to conduct all sorts of raids and apprehend people at will ... starting the chain of events that eventually led to the death of TBH.

Is the commission going to do that? Are they going to dig into the real stuff or are they just going to dig into laptops to see what MACC officers are watching? Are they going to ask the questions that need to be answered?

Sjmc: Man... that is so disgusting. Someone's life is going to be ruined and the officer seems to think watching XXX is more important. How can the public now face MACC, especially the women?

Abil: Why is the RCI chairperson making a huge fuss for the MACC officer watching porn after office hour when the de facto law minister and the home minister are both on record as saying that possessing, producing and exhibiting porn is no crime.

Malayamuda: Ashraf, I'm proud of you, my son. Come April 30, I will pay all my taxes diligently. - Malaysiakini
