Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir broke fast with media practitioners in the state at his official residence in Seri Mentaloon here recently.
About 150 mainstream and alternative media practitioners attended the buka puasa where Mukhriz announced the state government pledge of RM10,000 annually for the Kedah Media Elite Club.
It was double joy for the media fraternity when Mukhriz announced the state government was finding a premises for the club.
Kedah Media Elite Club deputy president Nahar Tajri said the club appreciated the state government's help.
"I would like to thank the Menteri Besar and state government for helping us and we will make sure that the members make good use of these gifts," he said.
Nahar said the club would use the house as its media centre.
"It would be a place for us pressmen to unwind and exchange views not only among the members but with government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the politicians as well," he said.
Present at the event were state Tourism, Energy, Indian and Siamese Affairs and Islamic Religious Committee chairman Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid, state Women Development, Welfare Services, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Suraya Yaacob and state Information, Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Tajudin Abdullah.
