State rep to hear grouses of flat residents

Poor residents of PPR flats in Section 8, Kota Damansara, will get a chance to air their grouses to Kota Damansara assemblyman Halimaton Saadiah Bohan tomorrow.

PETALING JAYA: The Kota Damansara assemblyman Halimaton Saadiah Bohan will visit the PPR flats in Section 8, Kota Damansara, tomorrow to listen to the plight of the poor residents.

“I was shocked when I read the report. There are families receiving assistance there but I didn’t know there are many others in the same situation,” she said.

The Umno leader was responding to an FMT report which highlighted the sufferings of several residents who could hardly afford a decent meal.

A flat resident, Hamisah Osman, does not even have money to go for her routine check-up for diabetes.

Halimaton said she would seek the help of Shah Alam MIC deputy chairman A Prakash Rao to solve the problem.

“We don’t want anyone to live in poverty and will do our part to help the residents,” she said.

Yesterday, the former Selangor state executive councillor for plantation workers, poverty and compassionate government Dr Xavier Jeyakumar said those living in poverty should try to earn a living.

“Malaysia is not a welfare state. We do not extend free housing to anyone. The government has built low-cost houses to cater for the poor,” Jeyakumar was reported as saying.
