The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has urged teachers to act professionally in dealing with students whose parents were involved in disclosing the use of a shower room as a primary school canteen.
"The teachers dealing with the matter should act professionally. If they act professionally, then none of this would happen," said NUTP general-secretary Lok Yim Pheng when contacted by Malaysiakinitoday.
Guneswari on July 23 uploaded photographs of the make-shift canteen in a shower room, claiming that non-Muslim students were being made to eat there during the month of Ramadan.
However, the school said that shower room had been used as a temporary canteen since March where students of all races had eaten there.
The original canteen, which as said to be under renovation, has since been reopened this week after the Education Ministry intervened in the matter.
Since the incident was highlighted, both the Guneswari and the school's headmaster Mohamad Nasir Mohd Nor have received death and kidnap threats.
