Former MCA central committee member Lee Hwa Beng believes his sacking from the party was due to his starting the 'Anybody But Chua Soi Lek' movement with several other MCA division leaders.
Chua Soi Lek is the controversial MCA president, who despite promising to step down after the party crashed to its worst performance in the 13th general election, has been moving swiftly to 'kill off' all possible rivals for his post.
"No, I don't think Soi Lek will keep his promise to step down. He has been going all over the country lobbying for support for himself and his son Tee Yong," Chua Jui Meng, a former MCA vice president, told Malaysia Chronicle.
"But with this latest move to sack Hwa Beng, I think Soi Lek has overplayed his hand. He is single-handedly making himself the most hated and disgraced party president ever in the MCA."
Kit Siang not the problem, Chua is!
Meanwhile, Hwa Beng conceded that the dismissal may also be related to the issue of him inviting DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang to his PKFZ book launch.
However, Hwa Beng does not believe the Opposition veteran was the last straw for the decision to remove him.
"I was elected as a central delegate and returned to active participation in the party with one intention. It was not for a higher position, but to topple Chua," Hwa Beng told a press conference in Subang Jaya on Friday.
"If he really wanted to sack me because I invited Lim Kit Siang to my book launch in April last year, he would have done it then. No need to wait until now."
Marked man because of his links to Tee Keat?
At the book launch was also former MCA president Ong Tee Keat, with whom Chua is at loggerheads.
Hwa Beng had been given the heave-ho by the MCA central committee on Thursday during a meeting chaired by Chua.
According to Hwa Ben, he was not given any formal notice or disciplinary hearing prior to his sacking.
