Chua to Gerakan: Sorry, but I'm right

MCA president Chua Soi Lek has 'apologised' to Gerakan acting president Chang Ko Youn for saying if MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai takes over the party, MCA will become another Gerakan.

Chua in the same breath nevertheless defended his remark, saying it was unfortunately a correct comparison.

"I can't compare MCA to MIC or Umno, therefore I used a Chinese based party that tries to be packaged as a multiracial party to compare.

"I admit this is an unfortunate but correct comparison," he was reported saying in Sin Chew Daily.

In response to the unflattering comparison Chang (left) yesterday urged Chua to look at himself in themirror.

The MCA president retorted that Chang should do the same.

According to the Chinese daily today, Chua was responding to Chang after he attended a party briefing in Johor.

He said Chang has no right to ask him resign, because the latter is only the Gerakan acting president.

'I had announced I will not seek re-election (as MCA president) in accepting responsibility (for the defeat in the recent general election).

"However while he (Chang) has lost he didn't resign from his party position, instead he asked delegates to give him the opportunity to become Gerakan president.

"Therefore, he himself should look in the mirror before he accuses others," jabbed Chua.
