The accusations by UMNO candidate for Vice President Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir that MCA is a racist party is utterly false. MCA has always taken a wide-minded approach towards any issue and we have never issued racist statements in order to win over the Chinese at the expense of the other races.
We have always dealt with issues in a logical manner regardless of whether it involves Malays, Indians or Chinese or any other race. Regardless of one’s ethnic and cultural background, we have never discriminated against anyone.
Thus, it is regretful and shocking for Mukhriz to accuse us as racists simply because we have disagreed with his statement that he will not help Chinese schools because the Chinese community did not vote for BN in the previous General Election.
Racism won't help Malaysia
The Chinese community have had contributed much to the development and progress of the nation, just like any other community.
It is essential that racial harmony be maintained as it is the main factor in allowing a country to grow, and it is unfortunate that some political leaders had decided to play up racial issues instead to win support.
Seeing that the UMNO party elections are around the corner, therefore I strongly urge Mukhriz and other UMNO leaders to stop playing up racist issues.
If they want to win the support of their party member, they should do so based on their achievements in the party to prove that they are the better candidate.
Malaysia is a multiracial country, and MCA will not allow anyone to undermine or pawn our racial harmony for their own personal gains.
