Jui Meng slammed for 'wrongly' interpreting Quran

Johor PKR chief Chua Jui Meng has been criticised by several groups, including Dewan Ulama PAS, Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin and Umno's Young Ulama, for interpreting several verses of the Quran after the Court of Appeal decision on the use of 'Allah'.

The veteran Johor leader was reported by Sinar Harian to have asked, in a tweet on Oct 14, whether the Court of Appeal judges overlooked Allah's decree in the Al Ankabut chapter, Verse 46, and the Ali Imran chapter, Verse 64, in the Quran.

"Do they submit to God or to men?" Chua asked.

NONE
He further cited the meaning of the Ali Imran verse: "Oh ye, the people of the book, let us hold to the one word... that there is no one to worship but Allah."

PAS Dewan Ulama secretary Nik Zawawi Salleh said the use of Quranic verses cannot be taken lightly by Muslims or non-Muslims, and one should not interpret verses according to their whims if they do not have the capability.

Zulkifli warned Chua not to misinterpret and said Chua should read the Ali Imran chapter from verse 64 to 77 and not read just half, as the Quran is not a book.

NONE"Al Quran should not be read like the Doraemon comic at its whims as there is a proper way and manner.

"In actuality, the Al Imran verse cited by Chua admonishes the Christians," Zulkifli is reported as saying by Sinar Harian.

Meanwhile, Umno Young Ulama's Fathul Bari Mat Jahaya said he was prepared to meet Chua to explain the actual meanings of the two verses.

"He does not know about interpreting the Al Quran, but wants to comment on the Allah issue," Fathul Bari said.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian reported the NGO Jaringan Melayu Muda calling on the authorities to take stern action on those who do not comply with the court ruling on the Allah matter.
