Launching a scathing attack on MCA and Gerakan, Mukhriz Mahathir questioned if the two BN component parties are trying to be “more racist” than DAP to win Chinese votes.
"I think the component parties need to ask themselves if what they say is helping to strengthen BN. I see that DAP is racist, that's clear.
"But is MCA or Gerakan also being even more racist than DAP to attract the Chinese votes...if that is their thinking, then the BN formula will not hold up," he told Berita Harian.
The Kedah menteri besar was responding to the criticism over his remark that he would not help Chinese schools in the state.
In the Berita Harian interview, the son of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad said his policy was not a racist gambit as national schools do need more help than Chinese schools.
"If this is seen as being racist, then the voting pattern in GE13 can also be seen as racist since only one community rejected BN," he said in reference to the Chinese voters.
Mukhriz, who is vying for the Umno vice-president post in the coming party elections, said the state government would not neglect any community, since development projects were meant for all races.
As for his statement on schools, he explained: "It was a specific issue that was raised regarding Chinese schools and so I answered that there are more national schools that have requested help and they should get my attention."
Yesterday, DAP leader Teresa Kok urged MCA and Gerakan to boycott the Sg Limau by-election campaign in Kedah over Mukhriz’s remarks.
