'Muslims who query Allah verdict risk being infidels'

Former Johor mufti Mohd Nooh Gadut has warned that Muslims who question the Court of Appeal ruling on the 'Allah' issue risk being akafir (infidel) or an apostate.

NONENooh (right), now adviser to the Johor Islamic Council, told Utusan Malaysia that those who question the decision show their Islamic understanding as being deviant and that they possess disgraceful character.

“If the Muslims question it consciously they can be ruled as being infidels or becoming apostates,” he warned.

De facto law minister Nancy Shukri, a federal minister from Sarawak, was quoted in The Star today as saying that Monday’s ruling was limited to the Catholic publication The Herald, adding that the government has nothing to do with the outcome of that decision.

PAS dewan ulama chief Harun Taib said it is compulsory for all Muslims to protect their belief, including defending the usage of ‘Allah’ regardless of their political inclinations.

“All Muslims regardless of their political inclination should defend Islamic beliefs and religion. I am satisfied with the Court of Appeal ruling as in Islamic belief, this should be protected,” Harun is quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia.
The three-member bench of the C ourt of Appeal on Mondayunanimously ruled disallowing the use of ‘Allah’ in the Malay edition of The Herald.
Federal Court judge Mohamed Apandi Ali said it is the common finding of the three-member bench that the use of the name ‘Allah’ is not an integral part of the faith and practice of Christianity.
