NO EASY WAY OUT: Stupid or careless, probe must be conducted - Tony raps govt

NO EASY WAY OUT: Stupid or careless, probe must be conducted - Tony raps govt
After Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chairman Abu Kassim Mohamed “offered” tips on how being careless and stupid could escape Malaysia laws, DAP national publicity chief Tony Pua explained how smart people usually get away with financial misappropriation.
“The smartest people in financial wrongdoings are those that answer, ‘Oh, is like this? I don’t know. I’m stupid in this,” Pua was quoted saying by Malay tabloid Sinar Harian yesterday on the forum titled ‘Audit Report: Wastage or Oversight’.
“The smartest, and the most intelligent, will act stupid. When they act stupid, it is not wrongdoing. Now it is a matter of efficiency,” added Pua.
The Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament said due to that only warning letter was served to those committed the financial wrongdoings instead of punishment.
He said 95 percent of the cases ended at issuing warning letters.
“When it is the question of efficiency, then it is up to the leaders and ministers to give warning letter. So, it is very easy to act stupid, and run away from the problems,” chided Pua.
Without stern action, Pua said the officers and head of departments would continue to be careless, an act that cannot be regarded as offence under Malaysia laws according to Kassim.
“We are hoping for the enforcement to make detail investigation so that the guilty parties will serve as a lesson to others,” added Pua.
Auditor General Ambrin Buang, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Kassim were the other panellists in the forum held in Karangkraf.
Meanwhile,  Nur Jazlan drew jeers from the audience when he said there was nothing sensation in the AG’s Report 2012.
“The opposition is playing up this issue. Don’t play up this issue so much,” Malaysiakini quoted the Pulai MP as saying.
He insisted that “wastage and misappropriation” are reducing citing the RM1.33 million worth of assets, including weapons missing from police was not as big as the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.
