'Two SNIVELING little boys fighting for a toy' - that's Soi Lek & Tiong Lai

'Two SNIVELING little boys fighting for a toy' - that's Soi Lek & Tiong Lai
Like playing a black humour film, the MCA party struggle has become more and more silly and ridiculous. Party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek punched his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai with one hand, triggering a controversy on whether he and Liow should leave the party together while attacking Gerakan with the other hand and setting of a war of words with the party's acting president Datuk Chang Ko Youn.
Honestly, outsiders like me should not simply comment on who should lead the MCA and it can neither be decided by Chua or Liow. Instead, the decision lies on MCA members. Unfortunately, unlike Umno, the democracy of MCA is not mature enough to allow a direct election. The selection of its leadership still relies on the central delegate system which is controlled by factional forces.
Therefore, even if Chua's proposal of leaving together with Liow is adopted, it is inevitable to have a battle between the proxies as the central delegates have already split into two factions supporting Chua and Liow respectively.
Therefore, for outsiders, the so-called leaving together proposal is just like a farce between two sniveling little boys fighting for a toy. Both are holding tight on it and refuse to let go. Finally, one said: "If you want me to let go, you must let go, too!"
Soi Lek might crack the mirror!
It is indeed too pitiful and ironic for a political party with more than half a century of history to not only failed in making political progress, but even unable to build a mature election mechanism within the party, causing the party leadership election to have no direction, goal, pattern and even style, but only impulsive teasing.
Similarly, the war of words between Chua and Chang is absurd, too. The two parties have suffered great defeat in the general election and they are actually reflecting each other's weaknesses. There are something that they should mutually learn to improve themselves. However, they are now shouting and laughing at each other instead of reflecting. How are they going to revive and reform with such a narrow-mindedness?
Originally, looking into the mirror is not something bad as politicians should always do so to not only watch over their appearance, as well as words and deeds, but also to reflect, learn and remind themselves not to repeat the same mistakes. Both Chua and Liow are having respective weaknesses and inadequacies while the MCA and Gerakan are facing some similar problems. Through looking into the mirror, they can see the true faces of each other, as well as the problems that should be rectified. Unfortunately, they are now looking into a distorted mirror reflecting only completely distorted images.
The political arena after the general election has been filled with infighting. In addition to the MCA, the DAP has also been trapped in an internal crisis. The chiefs of Malacca DAP and Johor DAP have criticised the party's central leadership for practicing unhealthy cultures of power centralisation and elite leadership. The development is, too, drawing great public concern. If it is not handled properly and eventually evolves into another infighting, the MCA's situation today might be a reflection of the DAP's future.
No one can actually stay on stage forever and no party can forever stay on the peak. What is important would be whether this person or party has used the opportunity well and play well their roles in a certain historical period. Applause will be given to those who have performed well while those who have performed poorly will be condemned. The mirror of history will eventually reflect the truth and no one can ever fool or be fooled!
