Delegates voting for the Umno top posts tomorrow have allegedly been lavished with dinners, “outings”, and “discounts” since nomination day on Sep 22.
“Dinners are held almost nightly since the nomination day and the frequency has increased in the last few days...
“Old timers like me know who has been working hard. These dinners and outings will not persuade me,” Johor Baru Umno committee member Faridah Mustafa was quoted as saying by English daily The Star.
Tebrau Umno member Omar Ponijan, meanwhile, told the daily he has been flooded with invites for “makan-makan”, as well as mobile text messages, post cards and tags on Facebook.
“I even heard of a local businessman candidate who is giving a discount to customers who are mostly delegates during this campaign period,” he reportedly claimed.
According to Section 5.6.1 of the Umno constitution, candidates are not allowed to host any meetings, including dinners hosted on their behalf, to encourage delegates to vote for them.
