Buddhism's essential teachings, and the sharing principle, are in line with the philosophy of moderation which Malaysians strive to promote and practice in their daily lives, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said Buddhism also advocated harmony and selflessness.
Putrajaya, he said, will continue to do everything it can to protect the harmonious coexistence of different religions and ethnicities from the threat of extremism.
"For it is Malaysia's diversity that is our strength.
"May this continue to be our most treasured asset, and a source of pride and unity for us all," he said in his message in conjunction with Wesak Day which will be celebrated tomorrow.
The prime minister also wished all Buddhists a happy Wesak Day. – Bernama
