PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar is urging the Election Commission (EC) to investigate Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who told Permatang Pauh voters his ministry would reject applications for agricultural funds and projects if PKR won in the May 7 by-election.
Ismail's statement was akin to bribery under the Election Act 1954.
The Lembah Pantai MP said
"His statement is completely unacceptable and the people of Permatang Pauh and Malaysians should condemn such arrogance.
“He is saying that the only way to get support from the ministry of agricultural is to support and vote the Barisan Nasional candidate.
"We are asking voters to reject such a political threat," she said at Pakatan Rakyat's daily press conference in Permatang Pauh today.
Nurul Izzah said Ismail had contravened provision 10(a) of the Election Act on bribery, which says a person is guilty of such an offence if "before, during or after an election, directly or indirectly, by himself or any other person on behalf gives, lends or agrees to give or lend or offers promises, or promises to procure or endeavours to procure any money of valuable consideration."
