Former president of the Malaysian Bar Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, who was arrested over the Workers Day rally yesterday, was brought to the Jinjang police remand centre today at 11.40 am, where police will apply to remand her and others detained.
DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) secretary-general S. Arutchelvan are also held at the remand centre, where they were brought to early today.
Lawyers for Ambiga, N. Surendran and Latheefa Koya, and Loke's lawyer, Gobind Singh Deo, arrived at the remand centre about 11am.
Latheefa said police only completed their questioning of Ambiga at 4am today, despite the latter having turned herself in as early as 9.30pm yesterday. Investigating officers only met the three high-profile detainees after midnight.
Ambiga, who is patron of civil society group Negara-Ku, Loke and Arutchelvan all spent the night in the police lock-up.
During questioning, Latheefa said police asked Ambiga only seven questions which she said were "factually wrong".
"It is obvious that they were not prepared to ask questions. All sounded almost the same," Latheefa told The Malaysian Insider at the Jinjang remand centre today.
A crowd of about 30 supporters outside the remand centre broke into cheers upon their arrival, shouting "Hidup rakyat" (Long live the people) and "Bebas tahanan" (Free the detainees).
According to lawyers in the remand centre, police were expected to seek a four-day remand.
The lawyers who have seen Loke and Arutchelvan, said both men are now dressed in purple lock-up clothes.
