Amid claims of plots being hatched and calls for his resignation, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak declared that he has the full support of the Umno supreme council.
He also revealed that the supreme council has given its unequivocal endorsement for his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin.
"The supreme council wants the president, deputy president and Umno's top leaders to unite as one team to tackle the challenges and take action to strengthen Umno and BN's position," he told reporters after charing the Umno supreme council meeting.
The supreme council's endorsement comes a day after Najib lambasted former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Tawau.
Pundits, on the other hand, claimed that Muhyiddin was gearing up to topple his boss after issuing a statement blaming the 1Malaysia Development Berhad issue for BN's defeat in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
Asked to comment critical statements by Umno leaders on the 1MDB controversy, Khairy said those statements were not aimed at Najib.
"We only expressed our concerns and there's nothing wrong with us expressing our concerns about current issues.
"The prime minister was very open in accepting the views of the supreme council.
"That's why when you ask me how the mood was today, it was very positive, because we discussed in an open manner," he told reporters.
No 'Italian job'
On former law minister Zaid Ibrahim claim that Muhyiddin, several cabinet members as well as former finance minister Daim Zainuddin had met in Milan to hatch a plan to topple Najib, Khairy said Muhyiddin had denied doing so.
"He denied, categorically any gossip, rumours to suggest that there was some secret clandestine meeting in Milan," he said.
Khairy also said that former information minister Zainuddin Maidin's claim that Umno supreme council members would "politely" seek Najib's ouster today had "no basis".
"Whatever he wrote (in his blog) had no basis at all. What was raised is not on the issue of loyalty, rather, issues that are currently being discussed by the rakyat and we want these issues to be solved as soon as possible."
Asked whether anyone had demanded Najib's resignation, Khairy replied: "Absolutely not". - M'kini
