Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin today expressed his disappointment over the attitude of some Muslims who violate the rules and regulations under the Administration of Islamic Religious Affairs (Terengganu) Enactment.
He said factionalism still existed within the Muslim community with regards to performing Friday prayers and building of mosques or surau without the permission of the Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (Maidam).
"I urge that these acts be stopped immediately because they contravene the enactment currently in force.
"I want Maidam to handle these problems and, if necessary, take legal actions against those involved. I understand these problems had been going on and nothing had been done by the those responsible.
"Factionalism does not do any good to the Muslim community. On the contrary, it will weaken them and will lead to destruction," he said when officiating the new Sultan Muhammad Mosque in Bukit Besar.
Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
The sultan also called on state leaders to work together towards uniting the Muslim community and, in supporting the New Terengganu Transformation programme, urged that mosques be regarded as a symbol and source of unity. – Bernama
