Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri will make an application to strike out a defamation suit filed by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Lawyer Latheefa Koya, who is representing the Lembah Pantai MP, said this was informed by a senior federal counsel representing Khalid and Ismail.
However, the lawyer said she has yet to receive the striking-out application.
Latheefa also said Nurul Izzah may decide to file her own application to bar the senior federal counsel from the Attorney-General's Chambers from representing Khalid and Ismail.
“This is because the suit was filed by Nurul Izzah against them in their personal capacity following the statements they made. Probably we will file the application next week,” she told Malaysiakini.
The next case management has been fixed on March 21.
Nurul Izzah named Khalid and Ismail in the suit, following their call allegedly linking her to treasonous acts for meeting self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram in the Philippines.
She is seeking aggravated and general damages from the two.
Khalid had said that Nurul Izzah is being investigated under Security Offences and Special Measures Act (Sosma) and the Penal Code for treason.
Meanwhile, Ismail had urged for her to be investigated under Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) for offending the relatives of those who died in the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion. -Mkini
