'Probe all who act or make religious-sensitive remarks'

Declaring that it does not condone the recent actions of a factory worker and one Gunalan Muniandy who allegedly posted anti-Islam remarks on Facebook, the MIC today called on the police to act as efficiently against all who act or make religious-sensitive remarks.
Such people include Ustaz Shahul Hamid, Zulkifli Nordin and Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, MIC Youth secretary Arvind Krishnan said today.
Arvind said the MIC had submitted a memorandum to the prime minister and the attorney-general in 2014, calling for investigations against these three individuals for their allegedly seditious remarks, which are just as religious-sensitive as the recent Facebook posting.
“The prompt action against the allegedly religious-sensitive Facebook posting by the inspector-general of police was good. But he should not forget: there are other cases that similarly require prompt investigations,” Arvind (photo) said.
The MIC Youth leader also said that party members were also frustrated with how the police conducted the case of the man who defaced a Hindu temple in Ipoh.
“What they (the factory worker and Gunalan) did was wrong. They should not come up with statements that instigate racial sensitivity, but MIC Youth is also frustrated with how the (temple desecration) case was conducted.
“They (the police) sent (the suspect) straight to the mental asylum. That is not the work of the police. They should have produced him in court. And the court should decide if he needed medical help,” Arvind added.
“Because of the way the police handled the case, it could have instigated the racial remarks (from among the public),” he said.
