What if widow in iddah the breadwinner?

YOURSAY | ‘The advice by Umno’s Dr Fathul would result in untold misery…’
Anonymous #19098644: So if a woman's husband dies, does the woman have to cease working, cease sending her children to school, is prohibited from taking a sick parent to hospital?
She must allow the whole household to starve because she can’t go to the market to buy food and to the bank to withdraw money?
The advice by Umno’s Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahaya would result in untold misery for innocent children, families and the survivors and probably result in the widow starving to death at home if no one helps her.
Appum: Lovely read. Full of humour and very down-to-earth. So how much understanding of the religion do the Umno leaders have?
Who was it who immediately accepted this 'truth' and said she could do online campaigning without leaving the house? Let's see how the rest of the pack react.
Onlooker: I suspect there will be a backtrack and this lady will 'decide not to accept the nomination'. Thus saving face all around.
Whatsup: A literalist with a PhD? What does that make Fathul, even more ancient in interpretation perhaps?
Come to think of it, PhD/doctorate should also be banned considering these titles may have Christian origin, according to an online source, and this might lead to confusion, won't it?
Vijay47: Apart from the very informative content of this article, it is also one of the funniest I have read in a long while.
Well done, Abdar Rahman Koya. Like they say, I wish I had said that.
Appum: This would set a very good precedent for the opposition candidates in detention to vie for future elections without being present during nomination.
The Election Commission (EC) has kowtowed to Umno, so let them do this.
Umno seems to be really bankrupt of candidates. Using a widow as a candidate, who has shown nothing in the past when her late husband was performing his duties is sheer desperation on the part of Umno.
If she is like Hillary Clinton, with a strong involvement in politics and public service, then that is a different matter.
Or is it an easy goal allowed by Umno for PAS to score here?
Wandering Star: Our sympathy to Mastura Mohd Yazid as a devoted wife for the loss of her husband.
But to twist the rules to facilitate her candidacy for the Kuala Kangsar by-election is simply unacceptable and obviously, a different issue.
Her suitability and ability do not count, she belongs to the chosen ones, rules and integrity take a back seat.
Yours and My Malaysia: Whether she is present or not, the big question is what qualifications she has or qualities she possessed to be a candidate for a Parliament seat? What is her manifesto?
The Analyser: The religious question is irrelevant. What is more relevant is her suitability as a candidate.
What characteristics does she bring to the job apart from her emotional value? There is plenty of evidence available that spouses do not represent the values or dynamism of their partners.
Anonymous #13291217: Do not underestimate the candidate. She would have been a minister already had it not been for her giving way to her husband's career.
Mastura was said to be an active Puteri Umno member, a strong debater, head girl in an English-medium school, a partner in a family law firm.
All that she had to let go when she married an Umno man. This should be her chance.
Malaysia for Malaysians: Why is Umno putting her up as a candidate?
(1) The opposition will not attack the character of grieving widow. (2) To gain sympathy votes.Anonymous_40f4: If Mastura was a Pakatan Harapan nominee, would the EC say the candidate must be present, otherwise not accepted, and that the EC’s decision is final.

As compared to certain ministers, Mastura should be acceptable. All the rest will be taken care of by ‘American pies’, which will be raining from the skies of Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar until June 18. -Mkini
