The head of the Sarolangun state legislative assembly (DPRD) in Jambi, Muhamad Syaihu was detained by police yesterday after a urine test was found to be positive for drugs.
Local media today quoted Kota Jambi police chief Bernard Sibarani as saying the assemblyperson was detained together with seven of his friends during a raid on a house in Kampung Bungis, Kota Baru in Kota Jambi as they were believed to be gathering for a drug smoking session.
The head of the DPRD is equivalent to a speaker of the state legislative assembly in Malaysia.
He said that following the raid, police found a packet believed to contain syabu drugs weighing 4.3 grams as well as several apparatus for smoking drugs.
He said all those detained were aged between 22 and 42 years old and one of them was a government official.
