KL Mayor: DBKL enforcers have nothing to fear over viral videos

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz today said that City Hall (DBKL) enforcers on duty will not be cowed by a rise of viral videos which often cast a negative light on their purported confrontations with the public.
"They (enforcement officers) have nothing to fear because they will never take any actions while alone.
"Our enforcement officers will move in a team of at least two people, so there will always be a witness (to any viral incident)," Amin Nordin told a press conference at the DBKL Training Institute in Cheras.
Amin Nordin said this when asked for comments on whether the recent trend of viral videos involving confrontations between the public and law enforcers have posed a new challenge for DBKL.
"In such videos, we can often see that the public has no fear of the law.
"If this continues, what will happen to Kuala Lumpur? We will be like a lawless state," he said in urging all city dwellers to show more respect for law enforcement officers.

Among others, he said the public should refrain from parking their vehicles illegally or risk it being clamped by DBKL enforcers.
Also present during the press conference was DBKL's Executive Director Rolan Abdul Rahman who headed a list of award recipients for his previous role in leading the enforcement department.
"I always remind my enforcers to be ready while on duty.
"Whatever we do, the people can record it. And nowadays people can even edit (a recording) to show as if DBKL enforcers are at fault," he said when asked for comments on such viral videos.
"So we also ask our enforcers to record any incident, and if we are blamed, we will have our own evidence," he added.
While DBKL enforcers are trained in self-defence, Rolan also said their approach in any public altercations would always be to try and diffuse the situation before it could escalate further.
Police had on Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old man who confronted a group of DBKL enforcers for clamping his illegally parked car in Taman Segar, Cheras, after a video of the incident was posted on Facebook and went viral.
In the incident, a man with a flat-top haircut and a fanny pack was seen shouting at two uniformed men and challenging them to a fight for clamping his Perodua Myvi, illegally parked on the side of the road outside what appears to be the Cheras Leisure Mall.

Earlier, Amin Nordin attended a march-past ceremony held in conjunction with the 48th anniversary of DBKL's Enforcement Department comprising some 2,000 enforcers.
Among others, the ceremony showcased DBKL's various enforcement units, which includes high-powered motorcycles, bicycles, Segways, horses and drones.

As part of DBKL's move to improve the efficiency of its enforcers, Amin Nordin said the various units, have since March this year, been consolidated under one chain of command, to be based in a new building adjacent to its current training institute.
Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who presided over the march-past, also witnessed a groundbreaking ceremony for the new building targeted for completion by 2019.
In his speech, Tengku Adnan reminded the enforcers of their role as the "face of Kuala Lumpur" and to continue carrying out their duties with integrity.- Mkini
