Prior to the last general election, Pakatan Harapan had made it clear that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim would succeed Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
However, the transition has since been shrouded in uncertainty and Mahathir's latest remarks on the matter appeared to muddle things further.
However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is certain that Harapan would not deviate from the original plan and Anwar would take over the reins from Mahathir.
On the same note, he said the timeframe for the transition is up to the two leaders.
"As for the rest, we leave it to the wisdom of the two men (Mahathir and Anwar)," he told reporters in Putrajaya this afternoon.
The latest round of speculation comes after Mahathir denied a CNBC report quoting him as saying that he would not remain in office beyond three years.
According to the premier, the three years he mentioned was the time needed for corrective work to be carried out.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin, who is also domestic trade and consumer affairs minister, ticked off the media for reading too much into the issue and asking questions.
"But I appreciate the interest of the media which has followed this issue," he added. - Mkini
