Muhyiddin leaves it to ROS to probe Umno

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (photo, above) has indicated that he would not meddle in a complaint against Umno lodged with the Registrar of Societies.
Asked about the complaint lodged by Pakatan Harapan Youth over alleged 1MDB-linked funds received by Umno, the minister said he would leave the matter to the relevant agencies.
"We leave it to the agencies and departments to determine what is the impact of the issue, if true, on organisations such as political parties.
"This is slightly out of my scope, as there is the ROS who will conduct investigations.
"What is important is that there must be solid grounds on what has been brought forward by certain parties," Muhyiddin told reporters in Putrajaya today.
Harapan Youth lodged the report yesterday in response to the MACC announcement on Friday that it was seeking to seize RM270 million in funds linked to 1MDB.
This included RM212 million which was to be seized from Umno, seven of its state chapters, and the Pekan division.
Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan has said the party would challenge the forfeiture suits in court.
The forfeiture suits had spurred speculation that it was part of a plot to deregister Umno.
Harapan Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Umno taking allegedly illicit funds was grounds for stern punishment from the ROS.
Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad said Umno was prepared to form a new party or have its members join an existing party, should it be dissolved.
On a separate matter, Muhyiddin reiterated the Home Ministry's commitment to increasing emoluments for police officers.
While he said the police's demands were justified, they must remain patient as Putrajaya navigates through financial hardships. - Mkini
