JOHOR BAHRU: Warisan’s new Peninsular Malaysia supporters say they are proud to raise the party’s flag and believe that the Sabah-based party can bring the change that they want to see in Johor.
Warisan has six candidates in the Johor elections, the party’s maiden electoral outing in the peninsula. The announcement of its line-up saw supporters of various races at the event.
One of the supporters, who asked to be called MGR Batliam, said he had just started supporting Warisan this year, adding that previously he voted for Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Last time, I supported MIC, but they didn’t bring any change to the Indian community, and it was obvious that they didn’t care about our wellbeing.
“On top of that, BN has many internal problems,” he told FMT.
Batliam believed he made the right decision to shift his support to Warisan, saying the party had a strong leader in its president Shafie Apdal while the members were united.
Another new supporter, Mohd Ridzwan, said he had never cared about politics before this, but Warisan managed to pique his interest.
“Warisan seems so inclusive without any racial and religious politics. That’s what attracted me to join this party and to be involved in the country’s politics,” he told FMT, adding that he had voted for Pakatan Harapan previously.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Baseran said he decided to leave PKR and join Warisan because the latter had strong promises for Johor, while expressing disillusionment with the PH top leadership.
“There are internal conflicts in PH, especially among the top leaders. I don’t have confidence in them anymore,” he said.
Johor goes to the polls on March 12, with early voting on March 8.
PH and Warisan will clash in six seats, namely Pekan Nanas, Bekok, Mahkota, Johor Jaya, Bukit Batu and Permas. The Sabah-based party will go against DAP in three seats as well as Amanah (2) and PKR (1). - FMT
