BN ready to amend constitution on overseas-born children

GE15 | BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi promised that the coalition is ready to amend the Federal Constitution regarding the citizenship rights of children born abroad by Malaysian women married to foreign nationals.

"In the name of inclusion, we no longer want children born through mixed marriages, or those with different ethnic and religious identities to be denied the right to make Malaysia their beloved homeland.

"Therefore, I emphasise here that BN is ready to amend the Federal Constitution regarding the citizenship rights of children born abroad to Malaysian women who are married to foreign nationals.

"We are doing this out of the awareness that patriotism and the love of the country come from harmony and inclusion," he said in announcing the BN manifesto via Facebook live broadcast.

His announcement marked a distinct change in policy from the stance adopted by BN in the past.

Political Funding Act

Zahid also said that the coalition is determined to ensure responsible transparent political practices in the country through the enactment of the Political Funding Act.

This is similar to Pakatan Harapan’s promise in its manifesto 'Tawaran Harapan PRU15' to introduce the act to curb the phenomenon of money politics and misappropriation of funds.

"At the same time, the appointment of key national positions such as MACC chief commissioner and Election Commission chairperson will be screened by a special parliamentary committee," said Zahid.

The BN manifesto also promised to separate the roles and functions of the attorney-general and public prosecutor to eliminate any potential conflict of interest. - Mkini
