'Slander' - Malacca rep distances himself from alleged sex scandal

Paya Rumput assemblyperson Rais Yasin has distanced himself from an alleged sex controversy associated with his name.

Commenting on the matter, the Malacca executive council member in charge of housing, local government, drainage, climate change, and disaster management portfolio, dubbed the allegations which went viral on social media, as being made up to tarnish his reputation.

"It is a slander made up to ruin my reputation. This is part and parcel of politics.

"I have never asked for sex as a bribe from any individual. Even I got shocked when I saw the screenshots of the alleged WhatsApp conversations. Those who know, know who I am," Rais (above) told reporters after visiting a market in Bachang, Malacca, today, reported Utusan Malaysia.

He was responding to allegations by a blogger that Rais had asked for sexual favours from a woman, in return for giving government contracts to the latter's relative.

The blogger had even shared screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations between Rais and the woman and said he would lodge a MACC report on the matter.

Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh

On Tuesday, Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh dismissed the alleged scandal as slander against Rais.

Elaborating, Rais thanked Rauf for standing by him.

"I know myself. I just came back from leave, that's why I did not issue any statement. But I would like to thank the chief minister for commenting on this matter."

According to Rais, a video allegedly linked to the scandal started going viral a day before he won the Tangga Batu Umno division after defeating the incumbent Mohamad Ali Mohamad by four votes.

Asked if he would lodge a police report on the matter, Rais did not provide a definite answer.

"Some people question why I would lodge a report when I'm (purportedly) guilty (of the said offence).

"I urge everyone to stop this political polemics." - Mkini
