MIC leader suspended after appearing on PN stage

MIC has suspended the membership of KR Parthiban for taking the stage at a Perikatan Nasional event.

A party source told Malaysiakini that Parthiban has also been sacked as a central working committee (CWC) member.

"He (his membership) has been suspended. He has also been sacked as a CWC member.

"The party will conduct an investigation before taking further action," said the source.

Parthiban, a former Ijok assemblyperson, attended the launching of PN’s Indian supporters club secretariat on July 23 in Tanjung Karang, Selangor.

Also in attendance at the event were Selangor PN chief Azmin Ali and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar.

In his speech, Azmin announced that Parthiban will lead the secretariat's northern Selangor bureau.

Some confusion within MIC?

Meanwhile, another source revealed that there is some confusion within MIC on the action taken against members who support PN in the upcoming state elections.

"The previous decision was to support Pakatan Harapan at the federal level.

"But in the state elections, MIC will only campaign for BN candidates and not do the same for Harapan candidates.

"There is also confusion whether party members are free to campaign for the candidate of their choice in state seats not contested by BN," the source added.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran recently revealed that the main reason his party and MCA are skipping the six state elections was that they were sidelined in seat negotiations.

"During negotiations (for opposition-held seats), giving seats to MCA and MIC was never discussed, especially in Kedah, Penang, and Selangor.

"Besides that, Umno was not very spirited in holding talks with MCA and MIC," he said.

Vigneswaran further expressed concerns about MIC's chances of contesting the 16th general election if Harapan and BN remained allies and used the same seat distribution formula.

"If we agree to the same formula (for incumbents to defend seats) during GE16, MIC can only contest in Tapah.

"Such negotiations are not suitable for MIC. Our party's future is more important than contesting in the state elections," he said. - Mkini
