Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Sulaiman has responded to PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s debate challenge, saying that he is waiting on an invitation letter from the minister.
Syahir jokingly said the PKR leader mentioning his name had caused a persistent cough yesterday - a Malay equivalent to the English saying "my ears are burning".
"No wonder I've been coughing since yesterday. Apparently, someone far away mentioned our names.
"I am here in Bachok. Let's wait for that letter to arrive," the PAS lawmaker quipped on Facebook today.
It was reported that Rafizi called for a debate with Syahir (above, right) on economic matters last night.
The economy minister shifted his challenge to Syahir after Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairperson Azmin Ali and caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor turned down his invitations.
“Azmin has turned it down, Sanusi has turned it down, I want to see if Syahir who is being touted as the number one economic figure in PN will step forward and we have given him plenty of space.
“I will write to him officially and I will await his answer,” Rafizi was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
The PKR leader added that he will continue to ask PN representatives for debates as he wants debates to be a part of the country’s political culture. - Mkini
