SHAH ALAM: At least 50 MIC leaders in Selangor joined forces with K Parthiban, former Ijok candidate, to bolster Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates in the upcoming state elections.
The decision comes after disappointment was expressed with MIC's choice not to contest in Selangor and to represent the Indian community.
Parthiban, well-known among the leaders, said PN showed more commitment to the Indian community with six Indian candidates compared to PH-BN's four.
"MIC's recent Central Working Committee's (CWC) decision not to campaign for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in six states further influenced their decision," said Parthiban in a statement at Majlis Ramah Mesra Bersama Kelab Penyokong PN Selangor, at PAS' Selangor office.
However, Parthiban has not yet announced any intention to join any specific party, including Bersatu, Gerakan, or PAS Supporters' Council.
He and the 50 MIC leaders pledged to ensure the Indian community's presence continues to surge in urban areas across Selangor.
Parthiban said he believed that the burgeoning Indian community, representing over 40% of Selangor's population, can significantly benefit PN.
PN Selangor deputy chairman, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, who is also PAS Commissioner for Selangor, said he warmly welcomed Cikgu Partiban and the MIC leaders' support for PN candidates in advocating for the welfare of the Indian community and building a clean, stable, and caring "New Selangor." - NST
