Fahmi runs data speed test in Kuala Selan'gor after complaint of weak coverage

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil ran a 5G data speed test in Kuala Selangor to prove that there is coverage in the area.

This comes after PKR’s Bukit Melawati candidate for the state polls Thiban Subbramaniam complained about the weak coverage to the minister.

“I request the minister to look at the issue of communication, especially in Bukit Melawati.

“When we enter the village area, it's hard to get a signal.

“I hope the minister will improve the communication network so that the people of Kuala Selangor get to enjoy stable internet and phone lines,” he said at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Kampung Assam Jawa in Bukit Melawati last night.

This prompted Fahmi, who was endorsing Thiban at the event, to whip out his phone and show the data speed test result.

In doing so, Fahmi refuted claims by Kedah caretaker Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who had alleged that Fahmi has failed in his ministerial responsibility of establishing a 5G network.

As the speed test result showed the 5G coverage, the PKR information chief proclaimed that he had done his work.

"He (Sanusi) asked me to work on 5G coverage. Tonight in Bukit Melawati, I have proved that there is 5G coverage here and it is fast.

“If I don't do my work, Maxis will not provide a 5G network," he quipped.

First-time contender

Thiban is a first-time contender in a state election, replacing incumbent assemblyperson Juwairiya Zulkifli, who is going against Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief Azmin Ali in Hulu Kelang.

Thiban will be facing Bersatu’s Noorazley Yahya on Aug 12.

In 2018, Juwairiya who is the political secretary of Selangor caretaker Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, won the Bukit Melawati state seat with 2,695 majority votes.

Bukit Melawati is one of the three state constituencies under the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat.

Also present at the ceramah last night were Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli, and state Pakatan Harapan leaders. - Mkini
