About 50 MIC members from Selangor have joined former Ijok assemblyperson KR Parthiban in supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming state election.
According to Parthiban (above), the decision came after MIC decided not to contest in the state to represent the Indian community.
“MIC’s recent central working committee’s (CWC) decision not to campaign for Pakatan Harapan candidates in six states further influenced their decision,” the New Straits Times quoted him saying at the PN Indian Supporters Club event in Shah Alam today.
He further claimed that PN showed more commitment toward the Indian community’s welfare, with six Indian candidates fielded in the state polls, compared to Harapan/BN’s four.
Parthiban believed that the support from Indians, who make up about 40 percent of the Selangor population, can benefit PN.
Earlier this week, MIC suspended Parthiban’s membership for taking the stage at a PN event.
In addition, he was also sacked as an MIC CWC member.
During the event, it was announced that Parthiban will lead the PN Indian Supporters Club’s northern Selangor bureau. - Mkini
