PKR Youth invites PN, Muda to debate on policy matters

PKR Youth has extended an invitation to youth leaders of Perikatan Nasional and Muda to debate government policies.

“If they want to engage or debate with us on any policy matters, we are willing to do that.

“...this is especially when we are heading into the state elections,” said the wing’s vice-president Atyra Hanim at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

Atyra (above, left) has not provided specific details regarding the date and location of the debate, assuming the two parties accept the invitation.

Also present at the conference is PKR Youth information chief Haziq Azfar Ishak (above).

Meanwhile, PKR Youth announced that it will be holding the Suara Anak Muda (Voice of the Youth) convention this week.

Atyra said that during the convention, seven youth groups will be given a chance to debate and air their grievances on policymaking.

Economic pulse

These groups will represent the Orang Asli, farmers, gig-economy workers, contract doctors, athletes, university students, and urban youths.

In addition, the groups will also encompass persons with disabilities as well as those falling under the Undi18 category.

The outcomes of the convention will subsequently be shared with the coalition government to facilitate the drafting of the Madani Economic Narrative, which is slated to launch in August.

The narrative is a guide and general framework for the country’s economic pulse, as stated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Furthermore, Atyra said that PKR Youth is considering plans to provide lessons on the electoral process for youth when asked about the wing’s intentions in this regard.

First step

Highlighting concerns regarding the education system’s limited syllabus on the country’s politics, she said the wing intends to launch a learning programme soon.

“We (PKR Youth) are worried about the disparity in education between those who are at the top and those at the bottom of society.

“Their understanding of politics is skewed, especially during the last general election where youth votes were volatile.

“We are not blaming them, it’s just the product of the system and this is the first step we would like to address,” she said.

Suara Anak Muda will be held on July 15 at 10.30am at the PJ Live Arts in Jaya One. - Mkini
