PETALING JAYA: Selangor will be developed to its full potential if Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins a mandate in the coming state elections, a coalition leader, says Saifuddin Abdullah.
Speaking at a pre-election rally here last night, he said Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari had failed to realise the vision of a “super state”.
He added that the state Pakatan Harapan chief should focus on developing the state instead of boasting about his election victory over Azmin Ali, his former mentor turned political rival.
The vision of building Selangor as a super state already existed when Azmin Ali was the menteri besar, but Amirudin, his successor, had failed to realise it.
“So this is something PN would do if we are given the mandate,” Saifuddin said at a pre-election rally for Selangor Baharu (New Selangor), the Selangor PN election theme.
“Selangor should be looked at as a super state. So we should also choose a worthy menteri besar, not someone who is proud that he had defeated the former menteri besar. That is not the narrative to build Selangor,” said Saifuddin, who is head of Bersatu and PN in Pahang.
At the parliamentary elections in November, Aminuddin had resoundingly defeated Azmin who was defending his former stronghold of Gombak. Azmin held the seat for three terms, having won it when he was PKR deputy president.
Saifuddin said Selangor should not be compared with other Malaysian states as it has the potential to be on par with great economies in the region.
“We should be comparing Selangor to Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong. Otherwise, we are not doing justice to what Selangor can achieve,” he added. - FMT
