Parties in the federal government are wrapping up seat negotiations for the six state elections slated to take place on Aug 12, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced.
“(The seat allocations) have been concluded in all states (except) one or two states that we will discuss and resolve tonight,” he told reporters.
He was speaking at a press conference at Menara Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur, after chairing the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting tonight.
Elaborating, the prime minister said the parties will unveil their candidates for the election soon.
“The candidates will be announced in two or three days, and we will give the dates,” he said.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi interjected and said BN will announce the outcome of seat negotiations for the coalition across six states on July 21.
“For BN, we will announce it on the 21st (of July), at night, for all six states,” he said.
Following that, Anwar said in a joking tone that Pakatan Harapan will make its own announcement a day earlier than BN.
“If BN says July 21, I want to do it on July 20,” he said while laughing.
The Election Commission has set polling day for state elections in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah on Aug 12.
Nomination day will take place on July 29, and advance polling on Aug 8. - Mkini
