State polls: Loke to defend Chennah seat

Two-term Chennah assemblyperson Anthony Loke has announced that he will defend his seat in the upcoming state elections.

Loke said the decision was made after taking into account the current political scenario of the state as well as the local sentiments.

Citing a survey, he said that 70 percent of his constituents have supported him to continue to represent them.

“Of course, the highest support is among the Chinese community, which is at 90 percent.

“But what also encouraged me is that according to the survey results, I have strong support among the Malay voters at more than 50 percent approval rating,” he told reporters in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan today.

The Negeri Sembilan DAP chairperson said over the course of 10 years, he had been in touch and close to the local community, including the rural Malay villagers.

“I have served them whole-heartedly, and I want to prove that even if I'm up against a Perikatan Nasional candidate, I can win and I hope to win not only through the Chinese voters but also the Malay voters,” he said.

It was previously reported that the Negeri Sembilan BN chapter had requested the Chennah seat.

In response, Loke said he would leave the decision to coalitions’ chairpersons Anwar Ibrahim and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Loke won the Chennah state seat with a 1,155-vote majority in the 14th general election. - Mkini
