Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin) managing director Ameer Ali Mydin was unable to hold back his tears when sharing his thoughts on the passing of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Salahuddin Ayub.
Speaking to Astro Awani, the distraught businessperson vowed to continue the Menu Rahmah initiative “until he dies”.
The Menu Rahmah programme was introduced to assist the B40 segment cope with the cost of living.
Under the programme, launched on Jan 1, 2023, participating restaurants serve lunch or dinner sets for RM5 and below.
Amer (above, in white shirt) said although Menu Rahmah was a simple initiative, it had “touched the hearts of the rakyat”.
“I hope my friends in this industry, many of whom have met him (Salahuddin) and know him, will continue this (initiative).
“On behalf of Mydin, we will continue this Menu Rahmah. I will do it until I die,” he pledged.
Salahuddin, who was also Amanah deputy president, succumbed to a brain haemorrhage at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah, last night.
The 61-year-old politician leaves behind his wife Fatimah Taha, six children and 11 grandchildren.
He was laid to rest at the Jalan Sulong Muslim cemetery at Kampung Serkat in Pontian, Johor, this morning. - Mkini
