Two-year-old dies from suspected abuse in Bagan Serai, three arrested

IPOH: A 26-year-old man and his parents have been arrested over the death of a two-year-old boy who was under their care in Bagan Serai.

Kerian OCPD Supt Juna Yusoff said the victim was brought to a clinic by the couple, aged 62 and 57, after the child was found unconscious at 6pm on Friday (Oct 13)

"Based on the investigation, the suspect took the child, his neighbour, in the evening to play. He was temporarily taking care of the victim.

"The suspect's parents noticed some injuries on the child and quickly took him to the clinic before he was pronounced dead at 7pm the same day," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 14).

Juna said the medical officer at the Bagan Serai clinic found several injuries on the victim, including bruises and burn marks.

"The victim's body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem examination.

"The cause of death was blunt trauma to the head. There were also wounds on the victim's private parts," he said, adding that the main suspect is a divorcee.

"There were no other children under the family's care. All suspects have been remanded to help with the investigation," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
