PETALING JAYA: Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil has called for PKR leaders and members to refrain from making comments that could “hurt” fellow component parties in the unity government.
He was referring to PKR veteran Hassan Karim’s remark that Umno needs a new face to lead the party as it cannot afford to ride on Pakatan Harapan’s “fragile” coat-tails in the next general election (GE16), Bernama reported.
Fahmi, who is PKR information chief, said Hassan was expressing his personal view and that his remarks did not represent PKR’s position on the matter.
“He shouldn’t have made that statement. Don’t meddle in other parties’ business.
“Hassan is a friend and a person I respect, but his way is not helping. If we do that, some parties will take advantage of it,” Fahmi was quoted as saying.
On a separate matter, Fahmi urged all quarters to respect the decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board to reduce former prime minister Najib Razak’s sentence and fine in his SRC International case, and to refrain from commenting on the matter.
He said the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) could take action against those who “overreact” in their comments on social media.
“I urge all to be careful (in making comments),” he added.
Yesterday, the board announced that Najib’s prison sentence in the SRC International case has been reduced from 12 years to six.
Najib’s fine was also reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million. However, if he fails to settle the fine, a year will be added to his sentence. - FMT
