Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abu Fasal remained undeterred in his support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and said other Bersatu lawmakers should not be afraid either.
He said the party’s new rule to prevent defections by lawmakers from declaring support for Anwar in Parliament cannot stop Bersatu MPs from doing so.
“I call on Bersatu MPs who plan or have intentions to help their constituencies by supporting the prime minister to proceed.
“The amendment (to Bersatu’s constitution) can’t stop support to the prime minister if the amendment has not yet been approved by the Registrar of Societies and can be challenged in court.
“Don’t give up,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
Syed Abu Hussin was among six Bersatu MPs who have declared support for Anwar.
Bersatu today passed amendments to Article 10 of its party constitution, in which members who go against the party’s decisions are considered to have quit the party, thereby triggering the anti-hopping law.
The rule is not retroactive, but party president Muhyiddin Yassin said Bersatu MPs who supported Anwar would be asked to state whether they maintain their stance.
If they do, then they would have violated the new rule, he said. - Mkini
