Norwegian King Harald V underwent a successful pacemaker implant procedure on Saturday at Hospital Sultanah Maliha in Langkawi, Malaysia, according to a statement released on the Norway royal family website.
The implantation of the pacemaker was necessitated by a low heart rate, as confirmed by His Majesty’s physician, Bjørn Bendz.
“The pacemaker was implanted due to a low heart rate. The decision was made earlier Saturday, and the procedure was successful.
“His Majesty is doing well under the circumstances but still requires rest,” the statement quoted Bendz as saying.
Bendz further said the pacemaker implantation would ensure a safer journey back home for His Majesty.
Plans for medical transportation to Norway are underway and expected to take place within the coming days, added the statement.
Bernama on Feb 28 reported that King Harald has been receiving treatment at Sultanah Maliha Hospital (HSM) in Langkawi after falling ill while holidaying in Malaysia.
King Harald is scheduled to resume his official duties on March 8, when he is expected to meet the cabinet at the Royal Palace in Oslo, reported Xinhua.
