Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has condemned the attempted firebombing of a KK Mart branch in Bidor, Perak.
He said such extreme acts were not acceptable.
“Of course, we (Umno Youth) harshly condemn such extreme acts,” he told Malaysiakini.
Akmal (above), however, said his boycott campaign against KK Mart will continue but advised those boycotting to keep calm.
“Keep calm and keep boycotting, not burning down shops,” he said.
It was reported that a petrol bomb was hurled at a KK Mart store in Bidor, Perak at about 5am today.
However, the petrol bomb, which landed at the empty area in front of the Jalan Bruseh outlet, did not ignite and no one was injured.
Police are tracking down the individuals responsible.
The petrol bomb came amid an intense boycott campaign against KK Mart over the “Allah” socks controversy, which Akmal has been a vocal proponent of.
The Umno Youth chief had maintained that such action was necessary despite apologies from KK Mart and the socks supplier.
The backlash over the socks has also led to two individuals who posted derogatory comments in response to the scandal being doxxed and physically confronted, forcing them into an apology.
The doxxed individuals have been sentenced to six months’ jail each, while the vigilantes have not yet faced any action.
Death threat
In a video uploaded on his Facebook page earlier, Akmal claimed that he had been notified of a death threat over his staunch campaign against KK Mart.
He said an individual had told him that the latter heard a rumour that Akmal’s life would be in danger if he continued the boycott campaign.
“On my way to a programme this morning, I received a call from a person. He told me he was worried and I asked him ‘why are you worried?’. He said he had heard there’s a death threat against me (Akmal) and that if I kept speaking about the KK Mart issue, one day I would get shot,” he said.
Akmal added that he will lodge a police report today to protect himself and the well-being of his family. - Mkini
